a5c7b9f00b A reckless janitor accidentally releases a zombie from a laboratory of research. Meanwhile, the teenagers scouts Ben Goudy and Carter Grant decide to camp for the last time since they are too old to be scouts. The problem is that they do not want to harm the feelings of their friend Augie Foster and the Scout Leader Rogers. They have a flat tire after hitting a deer on the road and Carter's sister Kendall Grant, her boyfriend and her friend Chloe stop their Jeep to see whether they need a ride. They invite Ben and Carter to go to a party in the night. The two scouts leave the camping during the night to go to the party. When they drive through the town, they do not see a living soul and they decide to visit a night-club since the bouncer is not at the door. They discover that people have turned into zombies and they team-up with Ben's recent acquaintance Denise Russo, who is bartender in the nightclub, and Augie that was left alone at the camp and came to the town. Soon they discover that the non-infected inhabitants have been evacuated and the town will be bombed by the government. They decide to rescue Kendall but they find that the address her boyfriend gave to them is wrong. What can they do to save Kendall?

Just when you think you have had enough of zombie films.."Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse" comes swooping into your local theatre! We have seen it all, "Dawn of The Dead, (both original and the remake), Braindead, Night of The Living Dead, The Evil Dead, ZombieLand" etc. Zombie movies have been used both to terrify us and to make us laugh. Usually it's done in a gross out way to make us have bad taste in our mouth or to make it incredibly funny. But…does this do any of that? Yes, and no. <br/><br/>Director Christopher Landon (Writer of Paranormal Activity 2-4) gets on the bandwagon of making us a zombie film. What is surprising is that he doesn't use any typical "Paranormal Activity" activity on us! He brings us something fresh and something we can just admire. While we never took The Paranormal Activity series seriously, I think it's fair to say that's what he has done here. Only the difference seems to be it works in Christopher Landon's favour and we can all agree that this movie succeeds perfectly well in that manner. <br/><br/>The plot involves Ben, Carter and Augie who are all Scouts, and are spending one last final camp together before the whole mission/course is over. Cheeky Carter (Logan Miller) wants to spend the final day just getting drunk and banging girls. The very typical guy stuff! Ben knows something is completely wrong with the town realizing that nobody isthey seem! Augie…well…Augie is in his own world. Quite sensitive, but very fond of his friends. When all of them realize that the town is now full of zombies, they decide to do whatever it takes to survive. With the help of bartender Denise (Sarah Dumont), they are now all out to survive the zombies. <br/><br/>There is lots of witty comedy in this movie. Most of which comes from Carter (Logan Miller). Most of the actual humour comes from the conflicts they have with the zombies. For example trying to communicate with a zombie by singing Britney Spears or by pulling on the penis of an old man zombie while you nearly fall to your death! Most of the comedy works, but some jokes do fall flat. <br/><br/>The movie needed to have more relationships with the actual characters involved. We get to hear a little bit of it, but we needed more. it seemed to be more focused on the killing of the zombies and how "cool" and "funny" each death was supposed to be, which i guess, is not a bad thing! All in all, if you want over the top violent, bad taste, gross out zombie comedy/horror, then this would be the movie for you. My hats off to Cloris Leachman who plays the creepy next door neighbour and gets even creepierthe zombie. She played the part really well!<br/><br/>I give this movie 3.5/5 stars. Great attempt and i would say if you don't wish to see it a movie theatre, rent it on DVD or on Netflix when it comes out! -Jay<br/><br/>Scouts Guide is a mix of comedy, horror and B-Grade exploitation fun that anyone can enjoy, especially if they have a taste for crude humour and gore like myself. Straight on the concept and it's plot (though it ain't no future Oscar contender) it's a 'switch off the brain' zom-com flick that aims high for fun, comedic scares and violence. The cast handled their roles well; juggling the comedy and minor character development butJay mentions there's little to the relationships on some characters but it does make up for it. <br/><br/>What I loved most about the film is it's really awesome practical make- up effects and minor CGI details handled by Tony Gardner, making the zombies (both human and animal) look convincing and yet funto see them get stabbed, blown up and dismembered (should I mentionwell one loses it's little fella in one hilarious moment).<br/><br/>SGTTZA is a decent film that tries to bring back the zombie genre for modern day horror lovers and the generation itself, it feels like a mix of Shaun of the Dead with American humour and films Dawn of the Dead, Brain Dead and Ted (as some jokes were felt to have the same vibe). <br/><br/>I give it 4/5 stars - Nick
Horror films in recent years tend to be in the found footage vein, and Zombie films have been in decline since filmmakers could knock them out on low budgets with large amounts of CGI hordes of the undead for the straight to disc market.<br/><br/>Scouts Guide is a modestly budgeted comedy horror with lashings of gore with plenty of raucous laugh aloud.<br/><br/>The film does open up with a truly cringe worthy two minutes of inept nonsense with a janitor doing his job, but quickly changes its pace with the introduction of D.O.D. Christopher Landon (son of Highway to Heaven actor/director Michael London) has the guts to run with the laughs and some decent splatter for the next 90s minutes. <br/><br/>The cast of unknowns are capable and do have the charm and skill to carry the film over its 90 minutes running time. The film does not lag or waste any time introducing parental relationships and defining the social structure of high school culture it exists within its own universe of undead, scouts, strippers, boobs and pussies of all sorts. It's well edited, the script is tight,the photography is bright and clean and is definitely worth a viewing.<br/><br/>I just hope the producers don't plan a long series of low budget pointless sequels and just let the film find its own appreciative audience over the coming years.
On the plus side, the film is high energy and moves quickly. And some of the zombie gore effects are fun, reaching nearly Raimi-esque heights of splatter during the climactic battle. None of it is really scary, though, especially since it’s so predictable.
